I have been meditating about this issue for about a year
now. It started with me asking a question about some forms
and methods of doing church. The ambiance and styles
from appearance seemed to be contemporary and aimed at a
specific demographic and audience. It seemed to be well
received by the people in the auditorium, but were THEY
truly the audience ? Was this a concert or was this
a worship service ?
If we are truly Biblical we must answer that "God" is or
should be the intended audience of any chuch service.
For God created man and woman to be worshiping beings
that glorify Him. It is ALL about God, His plan, His will,
His glory. That does not mean we can not have music and
worship that makes us feel lifted up and blessed also.
Now God includes the Trinity of the God head, which includes
the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. They are our target
audience. When we teach we need to be certain that we
are "rightly handling the words of truth" as best we
humanly can. When we worship we need to be sensitive to
the heart of God "giving praise with psalms and hymns".
When I say hymns I am not limiting that to songs written
100 years ago. But music that is up lifting in such a way
that "God may inhabit the praise of His people". In other
words just because we like it does not mean that God will.
So then let us empty ourselves. For the sake of the Gospel
and our King Jesus. What we have is rubish in light of the
riches that is ours in Christ Jesus. Strive to be open to
where God is moving in the momemt. Our theology should be
reflected in the words we speak and the music we play.
I look forward to getting some great discussions going
on the forum. So have at it tell me what you think. Let me
know if I am just doing incoherent ramblings or what ever.
